About The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join our Recovery Team as a Recovery Officer and be part of a busy and motivated team that is responsible for the collection of Council Tax, Business Rates and Sundry Debts.

This post is offered as full time fixed term position for 12 months.

As a Recovery Officer you will contribute to the Recovery Team’s administration and enforcement of Council Tax, Business Rates and Sundry Debt recovery in accordance with legislation, local policies and strategies.

You will deal with customer enquiries in writing, over the telephone and face to face demonstrating the ability to reach solutions having assessed information and applied legislation.

The successful candidate will be able to prioritise their work in order to meet deadlines and work towards personal and team targets with the minimum of supervision.

This is a hybrid role which will allow you to work from home and the office once you are fully trained.

Great Yarmouth Borough Council works with external enforcement agents and the role of the Recovery Officer does not require attendance at the home or business addresses of customers.

About You

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate that they have the following skills, knowledge, and work experience:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with experience of working as part of a team in a customer facing role ideally within council tax and business rates recovery or a debt recovery environment.
  • The necessary written and verbal communication skills to be able to convey information clearly and accurately to all customers.
  • The ability to quickly collate and assess information in order to reach a range of debt recovery solutions.
  • A proven ability of using computerised debt management IT systems, preferably Civica Open Revenues, and be competent in all Microsoft applications.
  • Enthusiasm & commitment to both meet performance measures set and explore opportunities for performance improvement.
  • Educated to GCSE grades A-C or equivalent including Maths and English.
