About The Role

Are you passionate about tackling homelessness and have experience in delivering homeless services?  If the answer is yes, then we want to hear from you.  You will work as part of a team, delivering the Council’s statutory homelessness function, providing a specialist role to support clients who are ex-offenders or at risk of reoffending, many of whom have multiple and complex needs. The role will involve working with individuals who have an offending history and may require support to access and sustain accommodation and engage with services. The post will also include visiting prisons to support discharge planning, housing assessments, and the transition of clients from custody into the community.

You will:

  • Support the delivery of the Council’s priority objectives as expressed through the Corporate Plan, the Housing Strategy and the Homelessness Strategy
  • Promote the values and principles of the Council in the delivery of services and engagement with our local communities

The post if offered on a Fixed Term Contract until 31 March 2028. 

This role requires a satisfactory basic disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

About You

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate that they have the following skills, knowledge and work experience

  • A good standard of education including levels of numeracy and literacy
  • Excellent IT, communication, negotiation and organisation skills
  • Knowledge of housing and homelessness legislation and statutory guidance, welfare rights, the criminal justice system, safeguarding requirements, the EU Settlement Scheme
  • Experience of working with individuals who may have challenging behaviour or multiple needs
  • Experience of working in a customer facing environment and giving information or advice
  • Experience of working with people experiencing homelessness
  • Experience of managing a caseload.

You will be able to work under pressure, remaining calm in challenging situations.
