A leading role in conserving & enhancing the Borough's rich heritage
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced individual to join the Planning Team at Great Yarmouth Borough Council. Now is an exciting time to join the planning department. Restoration work is underway at the Grade II* Listed Winter Gardens, demonstrating the Council's commitment to showcasing the Borough's unique heritage. The Council has recently become one of the first local authorities in the country to adopt a Borough-wide Design Code which is already helping to improve the quality of design in the area. A new Local Plan is under Examination. Additionally, new modern planning software is on the horizon which will help streamline our processes and enable us to deliver high-quality customer service.
The Borough benefits from a rich historic environment which contributes to the cultural identity of the area and provides significant value to the tourism and leisure industry. There are currently over 400 Listed Buildings, 14 Scheduled Monuments, 18 Conservation Areas and 1 Registered Park and Garden within the borough.
We are looking for someone who can work effectively with a variety of stakeholders including landowners, professionals and members of the public, and someone who enjoys collaborating and negotiating on new development proposals. Your varied workload will include dealing with your own caseload of planning applications, advising and providing guidance on Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas relating to impacts and effects of new development, as well as offering advice relating to urban design and advising on repair and maintenance issues. As a Senior Conservation Officer, you will also be responsible for leading on the production of Conservation Area appraisals and management plans, design, local planning policy and corporate projects.
