Our Building Control team plays a vital role in protecting the public, supporting development, and ensuring compliance with the highest standards of building safety across the Borough of Great Yarmouth.
We are seeking a Building Safety Levy and Operational Compliance Officer to join our team at an important time for the service. This is a new and evolving role, offering the opportunity to be involved in the implementation and ongoing management of the Building Safety Levy, a key national initiative.
Working within a small, supportive team, you will be responsible for administering and managing the Building Safety Levy on behalf of the Council. This will include preparing reports, ensuring accurate levy calculations, managing payments, and maintaining robust financial and audit records in line with statutory requirements.
The role will also support the wider Building Control service in meeting the requirements of the Building Safety Regulator’s Operational Standards Rules, contributing to audit readiness, record management, and the development of compliant systems and processes. A key part of the role will involve helping to establish and coordinate systems, including working with colleagues across Planning, Finance, and Building Control to ensure effective data management and integration.
You will act as a point of contact for levy-related matters, liaising with developers, internal teams, and external stakeholders, ensuring that processes are clear, consistent, and compliant. The postholder will play an important role in safeguarding the Council’s financial position and supporting the delivery of a high-quality, well-regulated Building Control service.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in administration, finance, or regulatory services who is looking to develop their role within a local authority environment. Knowledge of Building Control or planning processes would be advantageous but is not essential, as support and training will be provided.
In return, we offer a supportive working environment, opportunities for development, and the chance to contribute to a service that is making a real difference to safety and standards within the borough.
