About The Role

Junior Graphic Designer – Role Description

The Junior Graphic Designer plays a vital role within the Council’s Marketing, Engagement and Events Team, working under the supervision of the Print and Design Manager. The primary purpose of the role is to produce high-quality hard copy and digital artwork that supports the council’s services and campaigns, ensuring alignment with brand standards and audience needs.


Key Responsibilities

Design & Creative Work

  • Create visual assets for both print and digital platforms.

  • Develop marketing concepts in collaboration with colleagues.

  • Maintain accuracy and consistency across all branded materials, including stationery and templates.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with marketing, communications and print room staff to deliver cohesive campaigns.

  • Understand client needs and interpret briefs into visual outputs.

  • Present design ideas clearly and take on feedback effectively.

Workflow Management

  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

  • Proactively proof and finalise artwork before delivery.

Working Environment

  • Based in the office / working from home, with occasional site visits to assess design requirements.

  • 37 hours per week, with flexibility across 7 days depending on business needs.

About You

Experience & Knowledge

  • Experience in a graphic design role or through education.

  • Familiarity with design and office software (Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office).

  • Understanding of the impact of marketing and communication.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong skills in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat.

  • High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.

  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks.

  • Clear communication skills and creative problem-solving ability.

Personal Attributes

  • Creative, adaptable, and eager to learn.

  • Reliable team player with a positive, can-do attitude.

  • Willing to develop new skills, including illustration.

 

A creative and motivated Junior Graphic Designer with a strong foundation in visual communication and a passion for producing high-quality design work across both print and digital media. With experience gained through formal education and/or practical roles, this candidate demonstrates a clear understanding of branding, audience engagement, and the importance of visual consistency in marketing.

Technically proficient in industry-standard software including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat, they are confident working across multiple projects simultaneously—ensuring deadlines are met without compromising attention to detail. They are comfortable interpreting briefs, presenting design ideas, and adapting based on feedback, making them a valuable team player within fast-paced, collaborative environments.

Organised, reliable, and eager to develop their creative skillset further—including illustration and layout design—they bring a proactive mindset and a can-do attitude. Their strong communication skills and ability to stay calm under pressure make them well-suited to the demands of a busy marketing and design team.
