About The Role

Are you looking for a new challenge and a role in which you will make a real difference to people’s lives?

We are looking to recruit an experienced Technical Officer/Surveyor to join the Adaptations & Independent Living team to deliver a range of works for vulnerable residents of the borough enabling them to live safely and independently in their own homes.

The post is offered on a Full Time (37 hours per week) permanent basis.

As part of the core function of the role you will be required to:

  • Undertake property surveys and review Occupational Therapist recommendations to determine if the work requested is reasonable and practical.
  • Prepare schedules of work, drawings, and specifications.
  • Procure tenders and estimates for work and act as both ‘Client’ and ‘Principal Designer’ for the purposes of CDM regulations 2015.
  • Liaise with contractors, statutory bodies, and other professionals.
  • Supervision of works on site, prepare and process certificates of payment and completion.
  • Monitor and report on contractor performance.

This role requires a satisfactory basic disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

About You

The successful candidate will be qualified in Building Surveying, BTEC HNC/HND, or have extensive and relevant work experience and be able to demonstrate that they have the following experience, knowledge and skills.

Worked in either construction, asset management or environmental health (housing) sectors for a minimum of two years having:
  • Practical experience of preparing specifications and detailed schedules of work.
  • Practical experience of letting of contracts for building works.
  • Practical experience of site supervision including liaising with contractors and statutory bodies.
  • Knowledge of relevant housing and construction related legislation.
  • Ability to produce professional standard schedules of works, specifications, and drawings.
  • Practical experience in and application of planning and building regulations and processes.
  • Ability to manage own case load effectively and to meet required targets.
  • Demonstrate good listening skills and can respond to diverse needs of others.
  • Experience of working with vulnerable households and dealing directly with the public.
  • Excellent IT skills, including Excel and Word.
  • Hold a current valid driving licence.
