About The Role

Are you passionate about coastal management and community resilience? Great Yarmouth Borough Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to lead the development of a Coastal Adaptation Plan for Hemsby as part of the Resilient Coasts project.

About the Role

As the Hemsby Coastal Adaptation Lead, you will oversee the creation and delivery of a vital adaptation plan for properties at risk from coastal erosion. You’ll manage the appointed land and development agent, work closely with affected residents, and ensure the successful acquisition of planning rights and land for future development. Your work will directly support the community, helping residents understand their options and access the support they need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project management and oversight of the land and development agent to deliver a roll-back scheme.
  • Engage with residents in at-risk properties, understanding their needs and supporting them through the adaptation process.
  • Lead on the purchase of planning rights, facilitating access to legal and housing advice.
  • Manage project budgets and track progress against key milestones.
  • Liaise with stakeholders, local members, and the press to communicate progress.
  • Contract and oversee services such as legal support and demolition as required.
  • Develop land management strategies for nature-based solutions to coastal erosion.

About You

Ideally you will have experience of Coastal Management, Project Management or Land Development and ideally all three. We are keen to hear from  from a diverse range of candidates. This role requires a high degree of empathy and the ability to work with the local community and stakeholders to ensure that the project can help as many people as possible who are facing the impacts of coastal erosion.
